Last week we had a presentation stating game concept. We also wrote a draft concept document talking about our game's high concept, background story, mechanics, player description, and feature/assets.
Before doing our game, we did some researches about different game genres. We have looked at some critiques about different games and watched some game walkthrough on Youtube. Then, both of us are interested in adventure and puzzle games so we decided to do an 3D adventure game with puzzle in a 3rd person view.
We didn't want our game to be too general that can be forgotten after years, so we decided to add a theme into it. In our game, the player is just dead, and he needs to find his way to the paradise. Along his way, each level represent on of his bad personality, and he had to conqure some bad habits of his personality in order to continue exploring. After exploring all the "levels", a letter of permission will automatically dropped into his hands, saying that he is able to go to paradise now.
We also thought about making a multi-linear game, so players can choose different ways to go and have different endings. Or, no matter which way or what choice the player made, he can finally walk through the forest, but the player's feeling at the moment he walked through the forest would be different. We though about this because we didn't want to rule the players like they have to do certain things as we designed to solve the puzzle. Sometimes in reality, you can get same consequences using different ways but the feelings you gain is different. We might further develop with this view after deeper discussion.
